I Suffer From DPDR Disorder 24/7 And I Want People To Know What It’s Like (New Pics)

My name is Lulu and I am a 26-year-old living in Switzerland. I create comics that describe how it’s like to live with DPDR. I’ve previously shared my experience on Bored Panda.

Depersonalization/Derealization is not a rare disorder but it’s not very well known! Sufferers often feel alone because the symptoms they experience are weird and difficult to describe.

DPDR can be a diagnosis on its own as far as I know but very often it‘s also a symptom of another mental disorder such as Anxiety, Depression, Dissociative disorder.

The causes of DPDR are mostly smoking weed, trauma and mental illness.  Sometimes even people with migraine experience DPDR.

For me DPDR is constant. It’s a 24/7 thing and here is how it feels.

  1. You must stimulate your 'here and now' molecules. Serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin... DP/DR is a detach from 'present', you live almost full on dopamine (imagination, expectation, observation). I got DP/DR after a panic attack in 2017. I have a theory that because abnormal quantities of cortisol and andrenalin that my body released in that episode, (cortisol in large ammounts is toxic to neurons), my 'present' connections have been 'fried', and it dont regenerate back in a short period of time.

    what helped me:
-Try to do some INTENSIVE sport, like Crossfit. You must explode your body on endorphins every day.. and magically it will go away. Intense sports increase neuroplasticity. It was what worked for me.
